Booth Library exhibit: On the Shoulders of Giants: The Moon and Beyond |
Booth Library will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, as well as examine current and future space exploration, in “On the Shoulders of Giants: The Moon and Beyond.” The exhibit will be on display from Jan. 17 through May 31, 2019.
“On the Shoulders of Giants” will include a look at several of the Apollo missions, with a focus on Apollo 11, the lunar landing of July 20, 1969; EIU alumni connections to the space program; biographies of specific astronauts; space exploration today and in the future; female contributions to space exploration; and more.
Schools and other groups who would like to tour the exhibit are encouraged to contact Andy Cougill, aacougill@eiu.edu, or call 217-581-7548 to schedule a visit.

Safe Zone Brownbag: Asexual Awareness |
This one-hour brown bag focuses on asexuality. Briefly, an asexual person is someone who does not experience sexual attraction. The workshop will cover questions, such as

What does it mean to be asexual and/or aromantic? How do individuals experience asexuality different from one another?

What makes asexuality a distinct identity rather than a behavior (such as celibacy) or medical disorder?

How does asexuality overlap with and differ from other identities within the Gender, Sexual, & Romantic Diversity (GSRD) community?
-
What specific challenges and prejudices might asexual people face in a society that assumes all people are sexual?

How can we support asexual and aromantic students on Eastern’s campus?

Healthy Cooking 101: Fresh Fitness |
This program combines both lecture and hands-on experience in the kitchen. No cooking or nutrition experience is required. The best part is, you get to eat what you make! Our theme for April is, "Fresh Fitness," and we will discuss how to fuel your body for exercise while preparing recipes using fresh produce.

Bachelor of General Studies at Triton College - Table Visit |
A representative from the BGS program will be visiting Triton College to discuss options for students who are interested in completing a bachelor’s degree. The program is ideal for adults who work full-time, serve as caregivers, raise families, and for whom a traditional degree program does not meet their needs given a busy life.
Visit the EIU table located by the cafeteria, for answers to questions about admission and transfer credit requirements. Courses are offered online, and face-to-face at various locations in the Chicagoland area.

Safe Zone Brownbag: Black LGBTQ |
In this session, the lives, works, and experiences of GSD African-Americans in history will be introduce to some and re-introduce to others. Significant times in history that will be discussed are the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights and Black Power Movement, as well as, the contemporary Black Lives Matter Movement. Black GSM finding their “space” in white spaces like the Women’s and Gay Liberation Movements will also be a part of the discourse.

The EIU Mindfulness Club will offer special sessions to help students alleviate stress, reduce anxiety and strengthen focus. These sessions will be offered in the library’s Edgar Room at 6 p.m. April 28 and two sessions, at 5 p.m. and at 5:30 p.m., on April 29-30.
