Digital Humanities and the Language of Citizenship in the 1891 Hurricane in the French Antilles

Tuesday, 25 March, 2014 @ 07:00 PM |

Christopher Church of the Social Science Data Lab at the University of California at Berkeley will present his current research into the public reception of Atlantic World disasters in the nineteenth century and will explain how the techniques of digital humanities enhance scholarship by allowing us to analyze textual information in the aggregate.  He will also discuss how such new methodologies expand our interpretive opportunities, while cautioning that they must be seen as a supplment to, and not a replacement for, traditional methods.
