In the Light of Darkness: A Photographer's Journey after 9/11, the 2013-14 Tarble Arts Center Humanities Exhibition, is on view through February 23. The photographs trace photojournalist Kate Brooks' ten-year odyssey from 9-11 to the Arab Spring. Brooks moved to Pakistan to photograph the impact of US foreign policy and life in post-Taliban Afghanistan. She went on to cover the 2003 invasion of Iraq for TIME magazine. and conflicts in Palestine and Lebanon. Brooks’ photographs have been published in TIME, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The New York Times and other periodicals.
In the Light of Darkness is part of the EIU Center for the Humanities’ investigation of the concept 'Authenticity,' and is presented in cooperation with the Booth Library program Let’s Talk About It: Muslim Journeys. Muslim Journeys explores the history, faith and cultures of Muslims in the United States and around the world. The exhibition In the Light of Darkness was organized by the Southeast Museum of Photography, Daytona State College, Daytona Beach, Florida, and is on loan from the artist.
