Slow Living: Cuisine, Culture and Community in Southern Italy

The purpose of this program is to provide opportunities for students to explore the Slow Food Movement in Southern Italy, where the movement began. The Slow Food Movement is centered on the notion that taking time to enjoy good food that is raised in safe, clean conditions and sold at fair profits to local farmers is essential for good health. Students will find themselves immersed in the environment where the Slow Food Movement started. The program will help students develop an awareness of global issues related to their discipline, improve foreign and functional communication abilities, increase levels of independence and tolerance, expand problem-solving abilities, and develop more culturally sensitive attitudes and behaviors.
