Sex is Like Pizza is a new version of the "What is Consent?" program. It is a fun, interactive, new presentation given by the Health Education Resource Center's Mental Health Promotion Coordinator. Appropriate discussion will be held on the following topics: sexuality, consent, and bystander intervention. Oh, and pizza of course! 'Your Voice Matters' |
On Tuesday, February 21, the Interdisciplinary Center for Global Diversity will be hosting its 6th Annual Symposium and a Keynote Speaker, Juan Salgado.
Juan Salgado has been an influential voice in local and national settings for his work on the educational, political, and economic advancement of the Latina/o community. Juan Salgado has been the President and CEO of Instituto del Progreso Latino (Instituto) since 2001. Salgado led Instituto through a period of national award winning recognition and historic organizational growth establishing national best-practice educational and workforce models. In 2011 the White House recognized Salgado as one of 13 people nationally serving as Champions of Change for social innovation in their communities. Most recently, Salgado was selected to join the prestigious MacArthur Fellows class of 2015 recognizing his strong community leadership and his innovative approach to education in the Latino immigrant community.
Salgado holds a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Illinois Wesleyan University and a debt of gratitude to his parents. In May 2013, he received an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Illinois Wesleyan University and is a recent graduate from the Harvard Business School Owner President Manager program.

Black LGBTQA+ Say It Loud: I’m Black and I’m Proud! Black PRIDE in History! |
In this Safe Zone session, the lives, works, and experiences of LGBTQA+ African-Americans in history will be introduce to some and re-introduce to others. Significant times in history that will be discussed are the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights and Black Power Movement, as well as, the contemporary Black Lives Matter Movement. Bisexual/ Pansexual Awareness |
EIU Safe Zone
Created to address the concerns of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and ally community at Eastern Illinois University and the surrounding area, the SafeZone Project is a way to reach out to these students and welcome them in all areas of the EIU community. Safe Zones are areas on and around campus where supportive people provide information and work toward the elimination of myths, misconceptions, and stereotypes.
Bisexual and Pansexual Awareness is a brownbag of the Safe Zone project to discuss the misconceptions, myths and stereotypes concerning Bisexual and Pansexual individuals. This session will also educate participants on the differences, intersectionality of Bisexual and Pansexual identities and reflections on members own experiences. Story time |
Children ages 3 to 7 are invited to free story times in the Ballenger Teachers Center of Booth Library, located on the Eastern Illinois University campus.
Story times are planned from 10 to 11 a.m. on Jan. 28; Feb. 4, 11, 18 and 25; and on March 4. Programs will feature stories, crafts and activities. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. More specific information about the theme of each story time will be posted on the library’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
