To launch the 2019 National Library Week celebration, Booth Library will be holding its ninth annual Edible Book Festival on Monday, April 8.

Mixing things up a bit, this year’s festival will be an all-day event.  Entries will be on display starting at 9:00 a.m., with voting until 4:30 p.m.

The festivities will also include a reception with light refreshments beginning at 4:00 p.m., with awards announced at 5:00 p.m.

What is an edible book?
The Books2Eat website defines it as “edible art that has something to do with books as shapes and/or content.”

How can I participate?
The Edible Book Festival is free of charge, both to enter the contest and to attend, view and vote on the entries.

What can I win?
All edible book entries are eligible to win one of two best-in-show prizes, one determined by a jury and the other by popular vote of the festival attendees.  The winners for each best-in-show entry will receive a $50 gift card. Honorable mentions will also be awarded.

Interested in entering, but don’t know where to begin?
Try the Theme Challenge!

  • ingredient theme: apple
  • genre theme: mystery

(Please note that the theme challenge is intended as a starting point to inspire ideas and creativity; participation is optional.)

The registration form for this year’s festival is available online; the deadline to enter is April 5.  Entries from previous years can be viewed in The Keep, EIU’s institutional repository.
