When you're admitted to the university, you'll be assigned an E-number by which all your records are stored. Anytime you call a university office and ask for help that requires access to your student records, it will be necessary to provide your E-number.
Some time ago, students’ social security numbers were used to access information, but for more security E-numbers are now assigned. To obtain your E-number, contact an advisor in the BGS office at 217-581-5618 or call the Information Technology Services Help Desk, at 217-581-4357.
Your Net ID and Password will be used to access any website essential for academic function such as PAWS (the online student information system), EIU email (PantherMail), Desire2Learn internet classes, etc. To obtain your Net ID and password, contact an advisor in the BGS office at 217-581-5618 or call the Information Technology Services Help Desk, at 217-581-4357.
Information Technology Services has implemented a new procedure for changing your password. When contacting the Help Desk to reset your password you will be required to provide a photo ID. This ID can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org with your E-Number and phone number. The Help Desk will then call you back and assist with resetting your password. Following are acceptable forms of identification:
It is strongly encouraged that you go to password.eiu.edu and enroll in the Password Management System. Once logging in you can click the Enrollment tab and create three security questions. In addition, if you click the Verification Code tab, you will be able to register a mobile phone number and alternate email address. Once completed you can reset your password by going to password.eiu.edu and answering your security questions or by sending a verification code to either your mobile phone or alternate email address.
A password that is randomly assigned to you can be changed to one that is easier to remember. Just be sure to reset it to something that would be hard for others to guess. All passwords should be “strong” which means they should contain a combination of capital and lower case letters, at least one symbol (! # % * + ?) and at least one numeral.
