2019 Autism Conference      REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED

A conference is hosted each fall with a nationally recognized speaker who specializes in the area of autism spectrum disorders. The fall 2019 Autism Conference features Sarah Ward, CCC-SLP. (Link to flyer here.)Join us on Friday, September 20th from 8:30 am-3:00 pm in the Grand Ballroom for her seminar entitled "Interventions for Improving Executive Function Skills in Students with ASD: See brief description below.

This is a practical strategies seminar!  You will learn how to clearly define what the executive function skills are for the purpose of determining the most effective treatment interventions; understand the development of the executive function skills and what is meant by the term executive dysfunction; and learn dozens of functional, ready-to-use strategies for teaching students with ASD how to develop the executive function skills.

After attending this conference, participants will be able to:

  • State the functional working definition of what is meant by the term "executive function skills" as it pertains to therapeutic interventions
  • Define how situational awareness, self-talk, forethought and episodic memory are the foundational skills for successful task execution
  • Develop an intervention program for students with ASD to foster the ability to form more independent executive function skills (e.g., situational awareness, self-talk, following routines, task planning, task initiating, self-management of time, etc.)

In addition, seminars on numerous topics are available for:

  • Speech-Language Pathologists
  • Educational Professionals
  • Medical Professionals
  • Paraprofessionals
  • Students
  • Parents

Presentations may take place on the EIU campus for tuition or registration cost. Independent presentations can be contracted at a location off site for a negotiated fee. Half-day (three hours) or full day (five-to-six hours) seminars are available. Contact us for more information.
