Departmental Website

The Department of Music at Eastern Illinois University is dedicated to helping students achieve their musical and educational goals. An innovative curriculum, exceptional facilities, and dedicated faculty combine to produce outstanding teachers and performers throughout the United States and abroad. The Department of Music offers a Teacher Licensure Option for those who wish to become public or private school music teachers, and a Performance Option for those who wish to develop performance skills sufficient to enter the performance profession or for graduate level study in performance. A new degree, a Bachelor of Arts in Music, was added in Fall 2015 and is an attractive option for music majors who wish to pursue a degree with a greater focus in the liberal arts. Students in all options study music theory, music history and literature, music technology, conducting, solo and ensemble performance, and music pedagogy. Successful completion of an audition is required for full admission into the Department of Music. Please see to learn more about the application and audition process.
