W. B. Spencer, PhD

INTRODUCTION


Dr. Spencer joined the Psychology Department at EIU in 1971. He taught a variety of courses and especially enjoyed teaching both Introductory Statistics and Theories of Personality. Dr. Spencer was named the Psi Chi Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year in 1988, 1999, and 2007. In 2008, he served as the Commencement Marshal for the College of Sciences.

In the early 1980s, Dr. Spencer began collaborating with TDF Systems/TDF International, a Dallas-based consulting firm that was developing a personality-based approach to organizational management. He was the principle architect of the "TDF Pattern Inventory" and subsequently served on their Board of Directors from 2003 to 2006. "The TDF Pattern Inventory" has been taken by over 300,000 people in more than 20 countries on five continents.

Dr. Spencer currently lives in Austin, Texas. He and his wife, Cathy, enjoy volunteering in their community, attending lectures in continuing education, travelling, and their mutual love for Dr. Pepper and Texas barbecue. He and his family get together every summer at their cottage in Glen Arbor, Michigan.
