The Women's Studies Program is a University-appointed body of faculty, staff, and students. The Program's primary focus is the educational concerns and needs of women at EIU and in the community. The purpose of the Women's Studies Program is to promote an understanding of how issues related to gender, age, race, economic status, sexual identity, and nationality affect women's lives and the communities in which they live. In order to promote an equitable and sensitive environment for all persons, the Council also responds to issues affecting women on campus and in the community. The Program is mostly noticed during Women's History and Awareness Month each March, but it also offers other programs all year long. The Living History Program provides outreach to the local schools and other groups. The Women's Resource Center, located in the basement of Stevenson Hall, supports student and faculty research and provides information about services for women. The Program acknowledges feminist scholarship with awards and also recognizes women of achievement in the community. Our monthly newsletter is available on line. Women's Studies Program members meet twice each month. For more information about our services or becoming a member of the program, please contact Suzanne Enck-Wanzer at 581-2216, Coordinator. |
