Handshaking Night 2008 By Tasha Dunaway
On behalf of the Professional Writing program, I would like to invite you to join us for Eastern Illinois University’s second annual Handshaking Night on January 16 from 6-7 p.m. This event provides networking opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in the English Department by bringing in successful professionals in English-related fields. There will be no formal program; students and professionals will mingle, and students need not stay the full hour.
The Handshaking Night is not a job fair or interview, but an opportunity for both students and professionals to make contacts. Last year’s Handshaking Night successfully brought together students and professionals from various different fields including: law, public relations, international studies, publishing, grant writing, library and information science, academic advising, journalism, creative writing, teaching English as a second language, and teaching in a community college, among others. This year’s event will include many of the professionals from last year, in addition to some new faces, who are eager to tell you what you can do with a degree in English.
Please stop by the second-annual Handshaking Night for refreshments and a lively discussion. We hope to see you there! Let me know what you think; questions about Hand Shaking Night or recommendations for next year’s event may be directed to tddunaway@eiu.edu.
