Writing Across the Curriculum

The Writing Across the Curriculum Committee (WAC) was formed in 1990 as part of the revision of Eastern Illinois University's General Education curriculum. WAC's primary mission is to help faculty implement and shape a program that makes writing an essential and integral component in the learning process.


Fall 2009 Workshops

Thinking Critically and Writing Well: Shaping Assignments to Impact Student Learning

Part of EIU Faculty Development's Wholesome Professor Workshop Series

Session Description: Writing assignments are excellent vehicles for promoting critical thinking and helping students grow as thinkers and writers. Strong writing assignments require students to use the writing process in order to plan and organize their thoughts and know their topics thoroughly. In this interactive session, the speaker and participants will discuss how to create and plan writing assignments that meet the needs of your students, discipline, and subject matter.

Responding to Student Writing

Date: Tuesday, October 27
Time: 12:30 - 1:30 pm
Place: 3732 Coleman Hall

Session Description: This interactive session will have participants discuss and reflect on the commenting strategies they use for student writing. The workshop will also provide a number of recommendations on the evaluation of student writing, methods of efficient feedback for student writers, and productive ways to address grammar/style issues. In order to provide enough handouts for participants, please notify that you'll attend by emailing Tim Taylor (tntaylor@eiu.edu) prior to the workshop date.
