Come out to EIU's sixth annual MLK Day of Service and make a difference in your local community! The annual event honors Dr. King’s legacy and is an opportunity for Americans to renew their own personal vows of citizenship through service to others.

Volunteers are asked to check-in on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at 12 p.m. in the University Ballroom. Service projects will last from 12:30-4 p.m. Please make sure to bring a sack lunch with you! All transportation will be provided! Individuals can sign up for any event by clicking here! Groups of 10 volunteers or more, may contact Rachel Fisher at volunteer@eiu.edu. Please make sure to include your group name, number of volunteers, volunteer email addresses and top three projects.

Below is a list of available events (in no particular order):

Hunger Relief : FULL

Volunteers will work side by side with RSVP volunteers to package meals which will be delivered in late January to Haiti. Volunteers should come prepared to stand during the meal packaging and wheat may be used. This is a great fun way to learn more about international and local food relief. Time will also be included to discuss local initiatives!

Douglas Hart Nature Center

Get ready to help our planet! Volunteers will work indoors and outdoors (weather pending) in helping our local nature center. This is a great way to give back and help in conservation efforts. Please dress appropriately. Please dress according to the weather since this event may be outdoors.

Birthday Card Blitz : FULL

In partnership with Big Brothers, Big Sisters – volunteers will create personalized birthday cards for local youth involved in this dynamic program. Come ready to be creative and have fun! All supplies will be provided. This is a fun way to give back on this MLK Jr. Day of Service!

Service to Go Blitz

Volunteers will be making various indirect service projects such as coasters for the homeless, butterflies for young children and seniors, sun catchers for seniors, seasonal PLAY cards, etc.

Standing Stone: Extreme Agency Makeover

Volunteers are needed to help sort through donations, clean, paint and more! This is a great way to part of a grassroots movement to improve the community around us! (Volunteers may be helping setup the new building!)
