Make a Difference Day - Oct. 20
Volunteers are encouraged to join us for EIU’s Make A Difference Day on Saturday, Oct. 20. Inspired by USA Weekend magazine's annual Make A Difference Day, EIU is proud to offer its own day of service.
A variety of service projects will run from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Transportation and supplies will be provided. Volunteers simply need to bring a sack lunch and their spirit to serve on what promises to be a fun day!

EARLY BIRD SPECIAL: ALS Association (Walk to Defeat ALS)
- Time: 8:00am - 10:30am
- Up to 5 volunteers
Volunteers will travel to Mattoon, Ill., and provide help during the Walk to Defeat ALS. Volunteers will help check in runners and place signs throughout the route Transportation will be provided. This is great fun!
Party at Camp New Hope
- Time: 9:30am - 4:00pm
- Up to 5 volunteers
Camp New Hope, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded by families of people who have developmental disabilities and run some of the best recreational programs available. Volunteers are needed to guide activities and work with attendees for this day of fun! Transportation will be provided.
Early Intervention Group Fall Carnival
- Time: 8:30am - 1:30pm
- Up to 10 volunteers
Volunteers will travel to Mattoon, Ill., and help run the Fall Carnival. Activities include helping families with crafts, playing games, and handing out snacks. This will be great fun for all! Transportation will be provided. What a blast!
Help at HOPE
- Time: 9:45am - 2:30pm
- Up to 15 volunteers
Volunteers are needed to clean and sort at the shelter's storage unit. Lifting is involved but we will all work as a team so no worries! Transportation will be provided.
Douglas-Hart Nature Center
- Time: 9:45am - 2:30pm
- Up to 20 volunteers
Volunteers will travel to our local nature center and participate in a wide variety of outdoor activities. This will be a really enjoyable afternoon of service! Please dress to be outside and wear closed toe shoes. Transportation will be provided. Come out and enjoy nature!
Community Garden Makeover
- Time: 9:45am - 2:30pm
- Up to 5 volunteers
Volunteers will travel to our local garden and help with creating rain barrels. Volunteers will help make the rain barrels and help distribute to local residents. Come help our community go green!
Serve at PADS
- Time: 10:00am - 2:30pm
- Up to 8 volunteers
Mattoon Area P.A.D.S. is a not-for-profit organization that provides safe and hospitable shelter, support services, and advocacy in order to assist homeless or high risk individual and families. Volunteers are needed to help serve lunch and clean at the shelter. Transportation will be provided.
