Catholic Charities
Catholic Charities agencies throughout the country are an integral part of the safety net that keeps people from utter destitution. We provide a continuum of services—food, shelter, supportive housing, clothing, financial assistance, and other forms of help—that give people a leg up when life has knocked them down.
Volunteers are needed especially to help with sorting clothes in the Mattoon store. Volunteers are also needed to handle day-to-day operations of store including phones and cash register. Please call to see about available hours for individuals and groups.

Habitat for Humanity
The world is experiencing a global housing crisis. About 1.6 billion people live in substandard housing and 100 million are homeless, according to the United Nations. In the United States alone, 95 million people, one third of the nation, have housing problems including payments too large a percentage of their income, overcrowding, poor quality shelter and homelessness. Throughout the world, people live in inadequate housing, and Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to providing decent, affordable homes for those in need.
Volunteers are needed to serve on work-site crews, committees, and assist with various fundraisers.

Salvation Army
The Salvation Army of Coles and Cumberland Counties is proud to say that they have been supplying services to the needy in Mattoon since 1895. From ringing the bell at Salvation Army kettles during the Christmas season to working with young people in character-building activities, Salvation Army volunteers run the gamut of service in every Army program. There are approximately 3.5 million volunteers registered with The Salvation Army in the U.S.
Volunteers are needed to help organize and run the thrift store and assist in the food pantry. Also seasonal volunteers are needed for ringing bells during the holiday season.

Soup Stop
The Soup Stop is a local organization that is funded entirely on donations
and through volunteer efforts. Soup Stop serves lunch at the First
Presbyterian Church in Charleston daily M-F from 11:00am-1:00pm. Soup
Stop provides a meal to anyone who needs one.
Volunteers are needed to serve meals Monday through Friday.
This program may be steady or minimal in time commitment.
