What Transfers?
Eastern Illinois University accepts college level courses from any accredited college or university as college credit. Remedial, developmental, or orientational courses are NOT accepted. Hours and courses transfer as credit towards graduation. An evaluation of transfer credit will determine how courses are placed in a curriculum. Official evaluations of transfer credit are completed by the Records Office after each student is admitted.Grade point average does not transfer. GPA is used for admission to the University, and for admission into the College of Business, Economics, and Speech Communication Programs. A transfer student's cumulative GPA starts over once admitted to Eastern Illinois University.Associate Degree Benefits
A student transferring to Eastern Illinois University who has received an Associate in Art (A.A.) or an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree from an Illinois public community college, Lincoln College, or Springfield College in Illinois, is considered as having:- Junior status,
- A minimum of 60 semester hours of transfer credit accepted,
- The Cultural Diversity, and the Constitution Requirements automatically waived,
- Lower division general education requirements met.
All students will still have to complete Eastern's Graduation Requirements
Out-Of-State Credit
- Credit will be evaluated on a course by course basis.
- Content will be compared to course offerings at Eastern.
- Our records office will need a copy of the transfer institution's catalog and/or syllabi for courses taken.
- Sending this information prior to enrollment will assist in the evaluation of transfer credit
- Out-of-state associate degrees do not automatically meet Eastern's lower level General Education requirement.
- Transferable course will be placed in the appropriate corresponding component of General Education and major requirements.
Credit Policy for Out-Of-State and Non-IAI Institutions:
Courses transferred from any accredited institution which clearly matches an
Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) General Education course, will count
toward Eastern's General Education even if we offer no comparable course.
Community College Equivalencies
Community College and University courses are subject to change at any time. Courses not listed on the community college substitution lists will transfer as electives. Electives may be placed in major, minor and/or general education requirements.
