Toronto for
Teachers Program
The
Department of EC/ELE/MLE and the Department of Secondary Education and
Foundations, Eastern Illinois University, are proud to offer
a study abroad experience to enable undergraduate and graduate teacher
education candidates to interact, communicate, and reflect with
teachers and children in
multicultural, multilingual, and international school settings.
The host country, Canada, and the city of Toronto, Ontario, are known
for excellent innovative, and international education programs.
Toronto offers
exceptional cultural diversity and a safe, clean, and beautiful
cosmopolitan environment.
York
University has an enrollment of 40,000 students with 2000 in the
B.Ed. program. York U. Faculty of Education maintains partnerships with
exemplary schools throughout the
city. EIU
travelers will participate with educators and
children and youth in these model schools! Directors
of international programs for the
Faculty of
Education at York coordinate the EIU Toronto for Teachers
program. Workshops and tours of schools
and neighborhoods for mind-expanding introductions to the global
cultures of the city are provided.
Curriculum opportunities include ESL,
special
education integration, balanced
literacy, anti-bias
education, French immersion, the
international baccalaureate, middle level Horizon alternative,
secondary technical, secondary collegiate institutes, multi-age
classrooms, community
involvement, and much more!
In this environment of international education, EIU credits can be

EIU travelers must have attained Admission to Teacher Education, junior
status for education majors, and must have passed the first criminal
background check. They may sign up for
a
minimum of 1 credit up to a
maximum of 4 credits.

including Niagara-on-the-Lake and an Ontario vineyard and winery.
Housing will be private rooms at the 45 Willcocks Residence on
the University of Toronto downtown campus Living
at UT is an ideal location which puts the EIU group close to placement
schools and to many cultural attractions.
Program fee for 2010: $1700. Included are round trip airfare, all
local transportation, excursions, some meals, housing, and all York
program events and tours.
