The Department of Theatre Arts awards several types of scholarships, most of which require service to the Department.
Applicants should be aware that they may recieve other financial aid through the University; however, the entire amount of financial aid (including scholarships) cannot exceed the cost of attendance established by the Financial Aids Office.
2008 FALL RE-OPEN: for EFA applications and recommendation forms must be in the Theater Arts Office no later than 4:00 p.m., September 26, 2008 with audition/interviews date on October 4, 2008 by appointment. The Grant-In-Aid Award (GIA) - summer
General Instructions and Forms
Awarded only to outstanding and promising incoming freshmen who declare a major in Theatre Arts. It is renewable for the recipient's entire four years, assuming he/she retains the Theatre Arts major and maintains a cumulative 2.5 GPA. Recipients are required either to audition for a role or to interview for a technical/design position for each production. The award is paid in increments at the beginning of each semester.

TSA scholarships (usually in the amount of a tuition assistance) are awarded to promising and dedicated students who agree to work in one of the following areas: costumes, lighting, set construction, or front-of-the-house. The award is made as a block grant at the beginning of each semester. Although TSAs seldom are awarded to entering freshman, exceptions can be made for outstanding individuals with work experience in one of the areas mentioned above. TSAs are renewable from one year to the next, provided recipients maintain their grades and the quality of their contributions to the Department.

Awarded to EIU junior or senior Theatre Arts majors on the basis of outstanding contributions to the EIU Theatre Arts Department and potential for success in a career in the theatre. Awards, usually $1,000, are determined on the basis of interviews in the spring prior to the awarding of the scholarship. The awards committee may elect to grant two awards of $500 (pending availability of funds).

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student accepted to Eastern Illinois University as a declared major in Theatre Arts seeking Teacher Certification. The recipient shall have an overall 3.0 GPA and have a class standing of Junior or Senior at the time the scholarship is paid. Awards are determined on the basis of interviews conducted in the spring prior to the starting of the scholarship for fall semester.

As with the above awards, recipients of a grant-in-aid are expected to provide service to the department in one of its production areas. The amount of a GIA varies; usually, it is half the amount of TSA--although it may be less, depending upon the applicant's qualifications and the Department's needs in the summer. This award is a cash award and is also renewable.

In order to receive any of these awards, applicants must be full-time students with a declared major in Theater Arts. Auditions/interviews for awards are usually held in the spring semester. Applicants should ask their recommenders to send seperate Recommendation Forms/letters of recommendation for each scholarship applied for that may either be different wording or the same wording. Your recommender can go to this website and submit his/her recommendation by downloading the Recommendation Form, completing it and sending it via <Submit by e-mail> at top of page on the download, or print the form and ask them to mail or fax it to the address/FAX # on the form.
