Q: Why is it important to have updated mailing information?
In order to mail textbooks in a timely manner, it is imperative that the correct mailing address is updated in the system. All shipments are sent via UPS. UPS does not ship to P.O. boxes. An actual street address is required. In order to keep the system updated, students need to contact the Office of the Registrar by email at records@eiu.edu and copy Amy Jones at ajjones@eiu.edu prior to shipping textbooks.
Q: How do I get my textbooks?
If you live within Coles County, you are required to come and pick up your textbooks at Textbook Rental Service. Some courses may be picked up by the instructor or bulk mailed to the location site of the class. If you live outside of Coles County and your textbook is not being shipped in bulk or taken by the instructor, your textbook will be mailed to you via UPS. Since they do not deliver to P.O. boxes, a street address will need to be provided. If your class is being held on campus, your instructor may pick it up or we may deliver it to the department, or students may come and pick up their own textbooks. We are open daily 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday thru Friday. We have extended hours at the beginning of each semester that can be found on our website at www.eiu.edu/~textbks/
Q: If I have Cont. Ed. books and on campus regular courses, can I pick up my books at the same time?
Yes, if a student is taking both on campus regular courses and Cont. Ed. courses, students will be required to pick both types up at the same time at Textbook Rental Service.
Q: Why it is important to insure textbooks when returning textbooks by mail?
All textbooks should be insured when mailing through UPS or the US postal service. Textbooks are very expensive and if a problem occurs and the package is lost or damaged, the chances of reimbursement are greater. Q: If I received my textbooks in the mail, do I have to mail them back at my expense?
Yes, it is the responsibility of the student to return textbooks in a timely manner, by the dropped date or end of semester deadline. We do encourage students to insure all packages when mailing.
Q: If I drop a class, how soon do I have to return associated textbooks to avoid any charges?
Cont. Ed. students have 5 business days from the day of dropping the class to return textbooks without accruing fines, book charges, and a non-refundable drop processing fee. A mailing label is enclosed with all packages shipped to students to use for returning textbooks by mail. Q: If I want to purchase a textbook, can I do it at any time?
Continuing Ed. students, it is the half way point between the beginning and the end of the course. To verify this time period, please contact Amy Jones at ajjones@eiu.edu or (217)581-7484 Textbooks can be purchased by cash, check, visa, mc, or billing individual student account.
Q: When is the deadline for my textbooks to be returned
The textbook return deadline is established and published each semester and can be found in the following locations:
Continuing Education students have an additional five business days, following this deadline, to return textbooks associated with Continuing Education courses only, without any charges. This deadline is identified as the Five Day Grace Period deadline and can be found in the above stated locations. Textbooks returned by mail that are postmarked by the deadline date at the end of the five day grace period will be accepted and credited to the associated student account as long as the textbooks are in good condition. A mailing label with our address on it is enclosed with each package shipped to students to use when returning textbooks by mail.
