Dialing Instructions

Dialing ON-CAMPUS numbers requires dialing the seven digit phone number (ex. the number 581-5951).
Dialing (Local) OFF-CAMPUS Charleston and Mattoon numbers requires dialing the seven digit phone number. A PIN number is not required.
Dialing Long Distance (anywhere outside of Charleston or Mattoon) requires a PIN number.
PIN Numbers (Personal Identification Numbers) are required to dial long distance from your on-campus residence, and toll free services such as 888, 877, or 800 numbers.
Please come to the Telecommunications Office during regular office hours with a valid ID to receive your eight digit PIN number.
Your PIN Number is CONFIDENTIAL !!!
Students are responsible for all billing on their PIN number.
Report LOST or COMPROMISED PIN numbers immediately to the Telecom office at 581-5951.

How to Dial Long Distance...

Outside the 217 Area Code	Dial 1 + Area Code + 7 Digit Number - wait for three beeps - Dial PIN number.
Inside the 217 Area Code	Dial 7 Digit Number - wait for three beeps - Dial PIN number.
Calling Card Calls	Dial 1 + Toll Free Calling Card Access Number - wait for three beeps - Dial PIN number. THEN following the instructions of your calling card to complete the call.
Collect Calling or Third Number Billing (Within the 217 Area Code)	Dial 0 + 217 + 7 Digit Phone Number - wait three beeps - Dial PIN number. Wait for the operator to answer. Give the operator the special billing instructions.
Collect Calling or Third Number Billing (Outside Area Code 217)	Dial 0 + Area Code + 7 Digit Phone Number - Wait for three beeps - Dial PIN number. Wait for the operator to answer. Give the operator the special billing instructions.
International Dialing	Dial 011 + Country Code + City Code + Number - Wait for three beeps - Dial PIN number.
Toll Free Numbers (800, 877,888)	Dial 1 + 10 Digit Number - Wait for three beeps - Dial PIN Number.
