Telephone voice mail users at Eastern Illinois University will notice an improvement in service beginning the week of April 13.
New software for the voice mail system, with a number of updated features, is being released by Consolidated Communications for administrative users. The new interface is more consumer-friendly and permits easier and faster navigation within the mailbox, making the voicemail experience more pleasant.
New future features include:
- Unified messaging, which allows standard voice mail to be converted and saved as a digital “.wave” file. Such messages can now be managed as e-mails, allowing users to access voice mail calls from their computer or IP-enabled mobile device. New feature coming soon.
- Voice mail notification, which gives voice mail users the option to choose how they receive notice. Notification may be forwarded to another phone, to a pager or as a text page on a cell phone. This gives users the convenience and flexibility of receiving voice mails even when they are out of their office. New feature coming soon.
New user guides and instructions are available at the campus Telecommunications Office, located in Room 3040 of the Student Services Building, or online at www.eiu.edu/~telecomm/admin/mail.php or by calling
581-5951.
