| EIU gives credit where credit is due by recognizing that students learn skills in a varitey of ways. When college-level learning occurs in non-traditional learning environments and is not documented on a college transcript the COS Program provides opportunity for students to be awarded college credits. Students can be awarded as much as 30 credit units which can be directly applied to their bachelor of science degree within the Career & Organizational Studies Program.
Under the guidance of faculty members within the COS Program, students develop a portfolio documenting their college-level learning relevant to their field of study. To prepare the portfolio, students enroll in COS 1000 Portfolio Development where they are provided instruction in preparing written descriptions of college-level workplace learning. Examples of supporting evidence to be included in a portfolio includes: certificates of training, samples of work, a resume, a copy of a performance review, or a letter of verification of skills from an employer or supervisor. The documentation submitted should provide clear and convincing evidence that the student has achieved the learning outcomes.
