Tau Beta Sigma, a national honorary band sorority, is dedicated to promoting and serving College and University Bands.  Tau Beta Sigma was nationally chartered at Oklahoma State University in 1946.  Wava Banes Henry began the sorority seven years earlier at Texas Tech University.  Thus, Texas Tech became the second nationally affiliated chapter of Tau Beta Sigma in May 1946.  Today,  there are over 125 chapters of Tau Beta Sigma across the United States.

The Zeta Gamma chapter at Eastern Illinois University was chartered on April 16, 1977.  We have now been serving EIU Bands for over 20 years.  The Zeta Gamma chapter is a member of the North Central District (NCD), which includes chapters from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.  EIU is only the second school in Illinois to maintain a Tau Beta Sigma chapter.  Illinois State University was the first, and is the home of our permanent sister chapter Zeta Alpha.
