Why take Summer courses?
Thinking about changing majors or starting a new career path? Need to pick up some new job-related skills? Or perhaps you just haven’t found the time to take an elective in that special area of interest. Summer’s a great time to try something new!
We all have those subject areas that we struggle to master, and it doesn’t help when we’re juggling four other courses, a job and extracurricular activities as well. During the summer, you can focus on just one or two courses and take the time to get extra help from your instructor. Summer’s unique learning environment might provide the extra boost you need.
If you’re not already an Eastern student, find out why Eastern has been named one of the top Midwestern public universities in its class by U.S. News & World Report for six consecutive years. More than half of Eastern’s tenured and tenure-track professors teach during the summer, so you learn from and work with a faculty known for their dedication to students.
Eastern offers a streamlined summer calendar with two main sessions: Summer 4 (May 14 – June 9) and Summer 6 (June 11 – July 21). Also, a limited number of courses and programs are offered in a third session, Summer 8 (June 11 – August 4). Choose from daytime, evening, weekend and online offerings to get the schedule that’s right for you.
Eastern is a participant in the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI), a statewide agreement that allows transfer of the completed Illinois General Education Core Curriculum between participating institutions. Visit http://www.itransfer.org/IAI/ for more information. When making transfer plans, always seek the advice of an academic advisor or admissions counselor at your current school and at the school you plan to attend.
For undergraduate students admitted Fall 2004 or later, Eastern’s Guaranteed Tuition Rate Plan (http://www.eiu.edu/~registra/gtrplan.html) provides that tuition will remain the same for four continuous academic years. Just as in the academic year, Eastern’s Textbook Rental Service also saves you money. Rental of your basic textbooks for your summer courses is included in your registration fee.
