| The Legislative Action Committee works on
lobbying skills, techniques, and strategies to use to lobby members of the
Illinois General Assembly and Executive Branch. It assists the Student
Action Team Chair and the University Vice President of External Relations in
scheduling lobby dates,and contacts legislators prior to lobby dates to
introduce our student lobbyists. Finally, it maintains contact with
legislators through letters, emails, and phone calls between lobby
dates.

The Legislative Research Committee researches the state
budget and compares this to the University's budget, and should work hand in
hand with the VP of External Relations and Business Affairs to present the proposed budget for the
next fiscal year. It obtains demographic and personal data about students,
faculty, staff, and administrators in relation to social and political issues
affecting EIU, and obtains specific data on EIU academic procedures, financial
aid, and student life. Most importantly, it researches legislation that directly
affects EIU and higher education, and works with the Legislative Action
Committee to find the information they need to lobby legislators
effectively. Finally, it researches the voting records of legislators to find out which legislators we need to lobby. |
The Voter Registration Committee is in charge of all
Student Government voter registration efforts, and administers voter
registration forms in an accessible and convenient manner to students. It
presents students with non-biased information on party candidates to
encourage informed voting in all elections. It also holds voter registration drives to
encourage registration in Coles County and also presents information on
absentee voting in students' hometowns for those who wish to vote at home.
