"Supporting the Common Core"
35th Annual History & Social Science Teachers Conference
October 10, 2014

The 35th Annual History & Social Science Teachers Conference will be held on October 10, 2014, at Eastern Illinois University. The theme of this year’s conference will be “Supporting the Common Core,” and we will feature a day of presentations focused on how social studies teachers can and are supporting Common Core reading, writing, and historical/social studies literacy in their classrooms. Our keynote speaker will highlight the Library of Congress's Teaching with Primary Sources program, and we will have a host of other TPS presentations. Other sessions will focus on incorporating Atlantic world and Latin American history into your classrooms, annotating informational texts and building literacy, teaching units aligned to the Common Core, civic learning, and the Danielson framework. We will also have a luncheon panel reflecting on the Common Core and Higher Education. The format of the conference is changing a bit from year's past, and teachers will now earn 5 CPDUs for attendance. Finally, we are able to offer preservice teachers a $10 registration fee (this doesn't include lunch, though it can be purchased separately).

Online registration will open in August, and the links will be posted here.
