THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CHARLESTON SOCCER LEAGUE OFFERS THE FOLLOWING SET OF 10 RULES
TO HELP ACHIEVE POSITIVE ATTITUDES AND DEMONSTRATE
GOOD BEHAVIOR DURING CSL SOCCER GAMES, PRACTICES, AND RELATED ACTIVITIES.
THIS SET OF 10 RULES SHOULD APPLY TO ALL OF THOSE
INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED IN YOUTH SOCCER INCLUDING BOARD MEMBERS, DIVISION COORDINATORS, PLAYERS, COACHES, OFFICIALS, PARENTS, FANS, & OTHER SPECTATORS.
THE CHARLESTON SOCCER LEAGUE
BE A GOOD SPORT CODE
OF 10 RULES OF CONDUCT
1. Respect for one another both on and off the field of play is essential
for a good sporting attitude on the part of coaches, players, officials, parents, fans and spectators.
2. Safety is or ought to be everybody's single most important concern during CSL soccer games and practices. Safety includes equipment and field conditions, proper individual fitness (pregame nutrition and warmup, etc.) and equipment (shoes, shinguards, socks, etc.), adherence to the CSL Rules of the Game to help avoi useless and needless injuries, and a coaching and parental awareness of specific player physical and mental limitations and special needs.
3. Preparation through effective, efficient, skill and team tactical oriented coaching based on a sound and honest learning approach during practices and pregame situations is the best way for coaches to avoid player, parent, and officiating problems during game situations.
4. Coaches shall refrain from endangering or intimidating players by use of foul and abusive language, embarrassment in front of others, physical abuse (such as excessive exercise demands used as a punishment for palyers), and unrealistic demands of performance during games.
It
should be the goal of all CSL coaches to positively and productively
encourage players through reinforcing good conduct, motivation, and field performance while training players with individual basic soccer skills and soccer team tactics.
5. While competition is obvious in the Charleston Soccer League, its
Board of Directors believe that the most important part of soccer is
providing all Charleston area boys and girls with the opportunity to learn about and play soccer together in a safe and healthy environment;
therefore, coaches, parents, fans, spectators, and other players must
teach and encourage honorable and skillful physical play and discourage
the use of questionable tactics and plays.
6. It is the primary responsibility of all involved with the Charleston youth soccer program (coaches, officials, parents, fans, and spectators)
to demonstrate appropriate attitudes, actions, and values
which
are consistent with good sporting behavior during all CSL games, practices, and other related activities.
7. Coaches, players, parents, fans, and spectators must not be critical of CSL officials during CSL games or in the presence of any players as they must serve as role models for the players.
There is no option of protest in the Charleson Soccer League; an official's decision is final in all cases of rules application; therefore, negative comments serve only to add further to the frustration with no productive or positive effect on the outcome of the game or the referees future officiating.
8. It is the responsibility of all coaches, officials, players, parents, fans, and spectators to develop a knowledge of soccer. Specifically,
those directly involved with soccer players (even if only as fans, spectators, or parent role models) should learn the basics of the game.
CSL Rules of the Game booklets are available via mail order from
the CSL or at C & D Triple Play Sports on Lincoln Avenue.
For
example merely touching the ball with one's arms or hands does not
commit an offense resulting in a free kick. The "hand ball" must be
deliberate! Any time a player using a sliding tackle makes contact
with an opponent before he or she makes contact with the ball, a
tripping foul has automatically occurred!
9. The Charleston Soccer League is accessible to all Charlestona area girls and boys aged 5 to 14 years who desire to learn about and play
soccer. Any boy or girl who cannot afford the required shinguards or the annual registration fee should contact the Jim Grant, Secretary-
Treasurer of the Board of Directors, to make special arrangements for
participation.
10. The Charleston Soccer League forbids any adverse penalizing
of players or discrimination based on sex, race, religion, ethnicity,
and the special needs of individual participants.
Remember the CSL requires that every boy and girl regularly attending practices and cooperating with coaches must play at least the equivalent of one quarter of every game he or she attends.
Should you or anyone else you know care to offer
productive criticism or comments about how the
Charleston Soccer League Board of Directors can
improve its youth soccer program OR if you desire
