August 16-19, 2012
University Board and Student Government kick off every new academic year with back-to-school programs, starting the Thursday before Fall classes begin with Mix It Up. Friday is Up All Nite, Saturday is Quakin' The Quad and festivities end Sunday with Student Government's First Night.
Events are all free to EIU students. Each year, event themes change along with the activities offered. Themes have included Fantasy Factory and Jammin' Jamaica, Spies Like US. Activities have included a rock climbing wall, free food, raffles, bingo, comedy shows, live reptiles and amphibians, free T-shirts, etc.
University Board and Student Government works with other departments and offices on campus to make these events possible. If you are interested in helping plan these events, look into joining University Board or Student Government.
2012 Back to School Events
August 16
The New Student Mixer is the first event to kick off Back to School events. In 2011 following Playfair students took part in a campus wide scavenger hunt. You might still find a few glow in the dark hands and feet around campus.
August 17
Up All Night, will be the second of these fun events. This event takes place in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union with a variety of fun for all. In 2011 you could catch the movie "Bridesmaids" in Seventh Street Underground, play a hand or two of poker in the Grand Ballroom, or ride some Wacky Trikes all while gaining some EIU appareal and popcorn.
August 18
Quakin' the quad will be the third of this four days of events. This event takes over the south quad and is sure to grad your attention. Events in 2011 included BINGO, Rock wall, Shake Ups, Trampoline Jump, and much, much more.
August 19
The final event of Back to School weekend is First Night. This event is a large scale pep rally that will show you how to "Bleed BLUE!" You will become familiar with the EIU fight song, President Perry, marching band, Billy, Student Athletes, and many more great EIU traditions.
