Phoebe and Mike Church Scholarship
Description: The recipient(s) must have been enrolled in EIU for a minimum of four (4) semesters when receiving this award. The recipient(s) must be at least junior status and have completed a minimum of 90 hours when receiving this award. The recipient(s) must be enrolled in the Physical Education [Kinesiology] teacher certification option and have plans to teach Physical Education in the public schools upon graduation. The recipient(s) must be active in one or more departmental service activities such as Kinesiology and Sports Studies Club, Kinesiology and Sports Studies Honors Club, Recreational Sports, volunteer work, etc. The recipient(s) must have an overall GPA of at least a 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. The recipient(s) must be considered to have the potential to be an "excellent role model" for children of all ages as both "a teacher and possibly coach" in public schools. Preference must be given to applicants nominated by Kinesiology and Sports Studies faculty members. The recipient may be eligible to apply for, and receive, the award again provided she/he continues to meet the stated criteria. The award shall be announced in the Spring and paid in the Spring semester. This scholarship is subject to availability of funds.
