Richard Icen Fourth Estate Award
Description: The recipient must be a full-time journalism major in good academic standing. The recipient must have attained at least 90 semester credit hours. The recipient must be nominated by members of the journalism faculty. A nominee will be chosen by the departments scholarship committee and confirmed by the faculty as a whole. Candidates for this award should submit: Clips or tapes of news stories and/or editorials demonstrating a commitment to journalistic practices going beyond routine coverage. A summary of activities which indicate an interest in maintaining and promoting the role of a free press. A 500 to 750 word essay which defines the applicants philosophy of the role of a free press and the relationship of his or her career goals to these ideals.
