Gene Seymour Memorial Sports Journalism Scholarship

Description:  The recipient must be a full time student, majoring in Journalism, accepted to Eastern Illinois University. The recipient must be a senior or rising senior whose emphasis is news-editorial/newspaper and sports journalism. The recipient must be a student in good academic standing who will attend at least one additional semester prior to graduation. The recipient must intend to complete his/her journalism education at Eastern Illinois University. The recipient must have been involved in significant participation (at least four semesters) in sports journalism at the Daily Eastern News. The recipient must have stated an intention to pursue a career as a sports journalist and explain why in a typewritten statement of 250 words. The recipient shall be a person of outstanding character whose actions and conduct reflect with credit upon EIU. This award is announced in the Spring and paid in the Fall.
