CRITERIA FOR READMISSION

Former Undergraduate Students

Former undergraduate students who are academically eligible and wish to return to the University after a lapse of one or more semesters should make application for readmission to the Office of the Registrar and Enrollment Management at least 10 calendar days prior to the first class day of the term in which they intend to enroll. An earlier closing date may be announced in the public press. Students enrolled in the Spring Semester need not apply for readmission for the ensuing Fall Semester.

A former undergraduate student who has attended one or more regionally accredited colleges or universities may be readmitted provided the composite GPA in all course work attempted at institutions other than EIU is at least 2.00 on a 4.00 scale. If the student is attending another regionally accredited college or university at the time of applying for readmission, a statement from that institution indicating that the student is earning a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.00 on a 4.00 scale will suffice until the official transcript can be sent at the end of the term.

If you are attending another regionally accredited college or university and are in good standing, on academic warning or on academic probation at the time of applying for readmission, you may print a copy of the Required Statement in Lieu of an Official Transcript for Readmission from our web page.  This form states that you are earning at least a 2.00 on a 4.00 scale for the course work in which you are currently enrolled. If you meet this criteria, sign and return the form with your readmission form. Students who have been academically dismissed will not be readmitted until one of following has been received in the Office of the Registrar:

  • an official transcript with student's name and student identification number.
  • a letter from the Registrar at the transfer institution that includes the student's name, student's identification number, the Registrar's signature, the college seal, the department in which the course was taken and the course number, the hours earned, the grades earned and verification of good standing at that institution.
