EIU Recreation Administration Program

Curriculum News

Significant developments within the program include expansion of the offerings in travel/tourism and addition of a variety of new courses. Some of those courses are World Leisure: A Cultural PerspectiveFestivals and Special Events and Planning and Design of Leisure Facilities.

Other program additions include an active partnership in the creation of a travel and tourism elective course listing and strengthening of the major by adding a required business class course listing.

The program maintains its long-standing commitment to applied learning experiences through fieldwork, internship or student research activities. Key developments here include participation in the Special Olympics, organizing the annual homecoming race and creation of a recently established student display of scholarly activities.

Student Forum

The Student Forum, held in conjunction with our advisory council meeting, allows alumni and friends of the program to make presentations to current students. Each session lasts about 40 minutes; a general session kicks off the event followed by breakout rooms. The conference is held early in the Fall semester. For more information, contact Kelly LaMore, recreation superintendent at the Bourbonnais Township Park District, via e-mail or at 815-933-9905 ext. 230.
