4K Run/Walk for Shannon McNamara Set for April 26 at Campus PondApril 6 , 2009 The sixth annual 4K Run/Walk for Shannon McNamara, an Eastern Illinois University student who was tragically murdered in 2001, is set for Sunday, April 26. The run/walk is to begin at 2 p.m. at EIU's Campus Pond Pavilion. Check-in is to begin an hour before the race. Registration is $12 if completed online at http://www.active.com prior to the day of the event; those who pre-register will receive a T-shirt. Race-day registration is $15. All proceeds will go toward the Shannon McNamara Scholarship, which is awarded to an EIU student majoring in kinesiology and sports studies (formerly physical education). As an EIU student, Ms. McNamara was a physical education major, a member of the department's Honors Club, a student worker at the Student Recreation Center and a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. Last year, more than 200 people participated in the run/walk; this year, organizers hope to have more than 300 participants. The event is sponsored by EIU's Kinesiology and Sports Studies Honors Club.
