This book is available electronically through Booth Library(access instructions will be demonstrated), or generally widely available for around $10 at Wal-mart and most bookstores if you prefer a hard-copy (it does make a great gift for your favorite adolescent!). You can use any version of Teenage Soul that you can find, but it MUST be Teenage . |
| WebCT: | We will be using WebCT as a communication enhancement in this course. You will be receiving information and turning in some assignments through this medium. I will give a brief in-class demonstration on using WebCT and am willing to help any student having problems using it. Just ask! |

| Assignments: | Chicken Soup – For this repeating assignment, you will select readings from the Chicken Soup book, write a brief synopsis of the essay, and then relate course material and/or personal experiences to what you have read. You MUST relate your writing to adolescent behavior in some way. One typed, double-spaced page should be sufficient. Examples will be provided in WebCT. Hard copies will be required if you want your paper returned with comments, otherwise these can be turned in through WebCT email. |
Portfolio Project This will be a collection of smaller assignments (think of it as a scrapbook) that you can work on throughout the semester, but it will be turned in as one document. The format of your final product can be either a paper booklet or a digital collection (Word and/or PowerPoint) if you have the technological capability. Detailed information on requirements for the portfolio will be provided in WebCT. Relax, it's way more fun than writing a paper! J |
| Tests and Due Dates | Tests will be a combination of multiple choice and essay questions. The multiple choice will be on Scantron forms (please bring a #2 pencil). All test dates and other due dates will be posted on the WebCT calendar and announced in class. |
| Policies: | Attendance Attendance is essential for achieving the maximum benefit from your college experience. It is your responsibility to be present for class. Although much of the course material will be covered in the text, some will not. There will be several in-class activities with no make-ups allowed. Doing well in the class will require regular attendance. |
| Make-Up Tests
Under extreme circumstances or for university approved absences, if you anticipate missing a test, you may arrange in advance to take the test up to one week before or up to one week following the test date. If you are ill the day of a test, you will need to let me know BEFORE class time that you will not be present for the exam and then you will need documentation of that illness. Any test not made up within one week of the test date must be taken during the final exam period along with the final. All tests taken during the final exam period will be short-answer and essay rather than multiple choice. |
