STUDENT RESEARCH SUPPORT FUND
DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE
EASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY

Purpose: The Student Research Support Fund (SRSF) provides travel support for EIU Political Science juniors, seniors, and graduate students who have papers accepted for presentation at regional, state, national or international conferences between July 1 and June 30 of the current fiscal year. The goal of the SRSF is to involve students in research under the guidance of a faculty member in the Political Science Department.


Award:
The SRSF will provide reimbursement of documented travel expenses up to $400. SRSF awardees are asked also to apply for other campus awards/grants as appropriate, particularly the following:

  • Undergraduate students: Social Science Writing Awards; College of Sciences Scholars in Undergraduate Research at Eastern (SURE) Awards; and Honor’s College Research/Creative Activity Grants.
  • Graduate students: College of Sciences Graduate Student Investigator (GSI) Awards and Graduate School Williams Travel Grants.


Eligibility
:
EIU Political Science juniors, senior, and graduate students who are enrolled at the University during the term the paper was or will be presented.


Deadline
:
Fall Competition: Noon of Monday, December 3, 2007; Spring Competition: Noon of Monday, February 18, 2008. The Spring competition is dependent on availability of funding.


Application
:
A SRSF application will consist of a completed Application Form which is available in the Department office and on the Political Science Department website and should be submitted by the deadline to the Chair of the Political Science Department.


Funding Requirements
:
If selected, original receipts will be required to support reimbursement from the Student Research Support Fund.  As appropriate, the student also may be required to provide the Political Science Department with a standard request for travel form prior to the travel and a completed travel voucher following the travel.  A summary report of the completed project must be filed with the Political Science Department.
