Dr. Anderson (Ph.D. Missouri) teaches courses in American government, political theory and African American politics. His research interests center on American and African American political thought, media and American politics and African American interest groups. He is currently working on a project involving the Black Panthers as well as a media and politics project involving media coverage and the Mel Carnahan campaign in 2000 and the Paul Wellstone campaign in 2002.
Professor Anderson focuses his research on American and African American Political Thought, seeking to understand the tensions between individual liberty, collective good and American political values and how that conflict undergirds modern political behavior. His first book Agitations, explores this theme within African American politics. Dr. Anderson's current long-term research project explores the consequences of integration and incorporation in African American politics. In addition, he has been working with two colleagues from other universities on a project involving the consequences of Voter Identification laws in swing states in the 2012 elections.
