Eastern's Mission Statement:
Eastern Illinois University offers superior yet accessible undergraduate
and graduate education. Students learn the methods and outcomes of free
inquiry in the arts, sciences, humanities, and professions, guided by
a faculty known for its commitment to teaching, research/creative activity,
and service. The University community strives to create an educational
and cultural environment in which students refine their abilities to reason
and to communicate clearly so as to become responsible citizens in a diverse
world.
President's Goal 1: Enhance the Quality of Academic Programs
Business Affairs Focus:
- Procure quality products and services at the best value.
- Maintain academic facilities conducive to learning and teaching.
- Promote a labor relations atmosphere conducive to a harmonious work
environment.
- Continue to increase the level of customer service by providing
customer service training programs on a regular basis.
President's Goal 2: Achieve Equitable Faculty/Staff Compensation
Business Affairs Focus:
- Work with the IBHE, General Assembly, Governor's Office and the
Governor's Office of Management and Budget to secure salary parity.
President's Goal 3: Improve Institutional Effectiveness and Productivity
Business Affairs Focus:
- Provide a reliable, accessible technology infrastructure on a 24
hour/day, 7 day/week basis.
- Recruit, hire and train staff so that they possess the skills necessary
to the performance of their duties effectively and safely.
- Continue to refine administrative business processes to improve
operational efficiencies.
- Continue to actively pursue prime vendor contracts for quality products
and services which also generate cost savings for the University.
- Expand the use of the University Procurement Card to improve efficiency
of purchasing goods and services.
President's Goal 4: Heighten the University's State and National Image
Business Affairs Focus:
- Actively seek awards and recognition for "Best Practice" programs.
- Actively seek leadership positions in various National and State
organizations.
- Provide data to External Relations to be used in various publications
and external communications.
President's Goal 5: Increase Public and Private Resources
Business Affairs Focus:
- Develop a network of contacts from various external agencies (both
public and private) to enhance funding opportunities.
- Pursue alternative means of upgrading and replacing obsolete equipment.
President's Goal 6: Increase Access and Diversity Within the Student
Body, Faculty, Administration and Staff
Business Affairs Focus:
- Enhance staff recruitment efforts by publishing job openings in
minority-focused publications.
- Continue informational meetings with various campus constituencies.
President's Goal 7: Address Deferred Maintenance and the Campus Master
Plan
Business Affairs Focus:
- Continue a commitment to the Campus Master Plan for all capital
projects.
- Continue effective use of limited resources to make the campus more
aesthetically pleasing.
- Address deferred maintenance through the prioritization of maintenance,
renovation and alteration, capital renewal and capital projects based
on the Campus Master Plan.
- Seek additional funding sources (i.e., grants) to address deferred
maintenance.
President's Goal 8: Enhance Technology and Equipment
Business Affairs Focus:
- Pursue alternative means of upgrading and replacing obsolete equipment.
President's Goal 9: Enhance the Sense of Community at Eastern
Business Affairs Focus:
- Encourage a safe and protective environment for the campus community.
- Initiate the establishment of cooperative relationships with counterparts
at comparable institutions.
- Be more proactive in soliciting and sharing information about Business
Affairs activities.
- Review and revise signage and printed instructions as needed to
ensure clarity.
- Have more fun.
