Illinois Speleological Survey

Dedicated to protect, conserve, locate, record, explore, and study the caves and karst resources in the State of Illinois.

The Illinois Speleological Survey, Inc. (ISS) is affiliated with the National Speleological Society.

In line with our dedication, we have an ongoing project of compiling a comprehensive database of all known caves and karst features within Illinois. This database is continually being expanded and we welcome your contributions to its content. Because of the sensitive nature of caves as nonrenewable resources, we limit access to persons and organizations having need for information that falls within our objective of conservation and advancement of knowledge. This includes academic pursuits, as well as the more applied, such as the need for information concerning karst areas in regions of commercial or residential development.

We invite all individuals and organizations who have shared interests in caves and karst within the State of Illinois to contact us. We welcome your input, whether you may have additional resource information to contribute to our data files or have a valid need for information that we have acquired. Visit our Web Page
