Brian Beakley
Professor Beakley specializes in philosophy of mind, linguistics, and philosophy of science (particularly models of explanation). He received his B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh, and his PhD in Philosophy from the State University of New York Stony Brook. He has also studied Linguistics at the graduate level at Stony Brook and the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, and was a Visiting Scientist in Linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Professor Beakley is coeditor of Philosophy of Mind:Classical Problems/Contemporary Issues (MIT Press: 1992; second edition 2006), and translated Jean-Francois Lyotard's Phenomenology (SUNY Press: 1990). His current work focuses on causation and explanation in the philosophy of mind and linguistics, and the history of modal logic.
