Freshman Debut

New Students are required to attend an EIU Debut program. Debut is designed to provide orientation to campus and allow new students to meet with an academic advisor and register for courses. Freshman students will be mailed an invitation to EIU Debut. The invitation will contain a program reservation form. Students will need to return the reservation form to secure a program date.

Incoming Freshman must take "AlcoholEdu for College" between August 1-24 and pass a course exam. Information is available at Alcoholedu.

The Debut program will provide you with an opportunity to accomplish a number of important tasks including:
  • Learn about academic degree requirements
  • Meet with your academic advisor
  • Use P.A.W.S. to register for your fall classes
  • Specific majors require mandatory testing
  • Learning the ropes from current students
  • Becoming more familiar with campus facilities
  • Learning about campus support services and programs
  • Programs designed to help parents and students in their transition to EIU

Coming to Eastern opens a new chapter in your life. The transition from high school to the university setting is an exciting time filled with a myriad of opportunites. This transition also raises a number of questions and concerns regarding your first year here at Eastern Illinois University. We promise that your orientation day will provide you with more than a class schedule, it will prepare and excite you for your Freshman year at EIU.

Debut Program Schedule:

7:15 a.m. - Program Check-In: MLK, Jr. University Union (building 9 on campus map)
7:15 a.m.-7:50 a.m. - Early Bird Session: "Making Your College Investment Pay Off in a Great Job!" Career Services
  • We will cover the right and wrong ways to choose a career and major
  • You will learn exactly what you should be doing outside of class
  • We will discuss the THREE experiences you must have by the end of your junior year
  • Learn what fields are really hot, why grades are important, and what some college students do that ruin their opportunities for certain careers
  • Don't have a clue what you want to do or major in? Learn how to make that decision with confidence.
8:00 a.m. - Welcome
8:30 a.m. - Academic Orientation
9:30 a.m. - Student Program and Parent Program
Noon - Panther Information Fair, Skits, and Lunch
1:00 p.m. - Student program and parent program (continues)
4:30 p.m. - Closing
