What is Prowl?

We know college is exciting, but also challenging. So, we’ve developed a program focused on helping you make a smooth transition to your new life as an EIU Panther.

Prowl offers educational and social opportunities for you to learn about community expectations and how you connect to Eastern – Opportunities that will provide you with a solid foundation for both personal and academic success.

Yes, Prowl is MANDATORY for all incoming students! 

But with more than 150 activities to choose from, we’re pretty sure there’s something interesting out there for you.

Prowl 2014 begins on Friday, August 22 and you will be required to participate in events throughout the weekend prior to the first day of classes.  Prowl events will continue through the first six weeks of the semester.

Events fall into the following categories:

 

  Connect to your New Community

Civic & Citizenship programming will help you become a responsible citizen by providing standards and expectations for integration into Eastern, Charleston and greater communities.

Highlights include:

  • G.I.V.E.: Get Involved in Volunteer Efforts

  • Jump Start 2 G.I.V.E.

  • EIUnities “Just Say Hi” Campaign

  • Voter Registration drive

  • EIU’s Run for a Reason: Run Red

  • Constitution week

Connect to Academics

Academic Programming will provide a myriad of opportunities for you to become familiar with academic expectations. Outside of class, activities with faculty will introduce you to the intellectual life of the University.

Highlights Include:

  • Convocation

  • EIU Reads Discussions

  • College Meetings

  • Transfer Connections Workshops

  • Academic Lectures and Programs

  • Academic Foundations Day

Connect to Wellness

Wellness programming will provide information on the importance of staying healthy. Learn how to maintain your health – both physical and mental - and how it impacts academic performance.

Highlights include:

  • Life skills and safety information

  • Student recreation center

  • EIU Moves

  • Fun Facts: Every Wednesday

  • AlcoholEdu (Freshmen And Transfers must complete by Monday, August 25)

Connect To Eastern

Traditions and Culture Programming, which will introduce you to EIU traditions, history and campus culture, and will foster an appreciation for the role of diversity in Eastern and Global Community.

Highlights include:

  • New student mixer : Thursday, August 21

  • Up all night: Friday, August 22

  • Quakin’ in the Quad: Saturday, August 23

  • First Night: Sunday, August 24

  • Spirit Thursday's

Connect To People

Social connections events will provide you with structured ways to become involved in activities on campus. Events will help you develop personal relationships with others, as well as introduce you to campus organizations and activities.
