Sustainability Efforts

Recycling

NRHH provides large blue bins for the on campus residents to deposit their used aluminum cans and #1 plastic. The bags of the bottles and cans are placed out at predetermined places for the NRHH members to pick up every Monday and Thursday after 8pm. The cans and bottles are processed for a monetary value at a later time. The money is used for scholarships given by RHA and NRHH. The residence hall with the most bags of cans and bottles per month receive a $100 award towards their hall improvement fund.

Bulletin Boards

NRHH developed 9 different bulletin boards to educate residents about sustainability topics. Each residence hall has one of these bulletin boards in their lobbies. NRHH members rotate the bulletin boards every month to insure residents see each topic. Each bulletin board is made out of recycled paper and is laminated to use in the future. Topics include water conservation, energy conservation, recycling, carbon foot printing, Debra Rowe’s Sustainability, biofuels, greenhouse initiatives, solar technology, and wind technology. Magnets

NRHH has decided to attempt to lessen energy use in the residence halls. One way we have done this is by making magnets to place around every light switch within residents’ rooms. They remind residents to turn off lights when not in use. Click here for a preview at the magnet.
