Annual Fund Drive

Annual Fund Drive

For 56 years the Catholic Church has had a presence on the campus of EIU. The NEWMAN community has been a source of strength and wisdom for the many Catholic students who have attended
Eastern Illinois University. We remain committed to providing a vision and a voice in helping students to deepen their faith experience and to appropriate an adult faith life.

As you can tell from browsing our home page we have made great progress in continuing to offer some excellent faith opportunities for the students. All these things have been possible only with the help of NEWMAN's generous alumni, parents, and friends. This partnership in ministry has kept NEWMAN alive and moving. It is time to deepen this partnership.

The NEWMAN Associates Program

NEWMAN's annual giving campaign allows alumni, parents and friends to support and promote the work of the NEWMAN CATHOLIC CENTER. The NEWMAN Associates Program seeks gifts from individuals who appreciate the value of our work and want actively to participate each year in its continuing success.

In addition, with your help the staff will continue important improvements to strengthen the ministry here. Your support will help us to offer the best staff and programming to meet the need of our Catholic students.

Levels of Giving

The Dorothee Coleman Associates
$500 or more

Mrs. Dorothee Coleman was the moving force behind the foundation of the Newman Apostolate here at EIU. She helped to start the Catholic Study Club in the Fall of 1939, which became the Newman Club in 1940. Her concern for the faith life of Catholic students was only overshadowed by her love and enthusiasm for life. She was truly a witness of what it means to walk in the light of Christ. Her activities on behalf of the Newman community will forever be remembered.

In recognition of their crucial support for NEWMAN, Coleman Associates receive from Bishop Daniel Ryan, Bishop of Springfield in Illinois, a personally inscribed plaque suitable for wall hanging.

The Monsignor Daniel Moriarty Associates
$250 or more

Monsignor Daniel Moriarty was Director of the Newman community at EIU for 45 years. He made enormous contributions to the growth and guidance of the Newman community throughout his tenure. His desire for creating a Catholic presence on campus deepened many Catholic students' faith. Membership in the Msgr. Daniel Moriarty Associates is open to anyone who contributes $250 or more. Moriarty Associates will receive from Roy Lanham, Director, a NEWMAN Certificate plus an advanced copy of the newsletter.

The John Henry Cardinal Newman Associates
$100 or more

John Cardinal Newman, our patron, was a convert to Catholicism. His ideas on the nature of education have influenced the study of theology and literature. His work has been instrumental in shaping the development of the Newman movement on college campuses. Membership in the John Henry Cardinal Newman Associates is open to anyone who contributes $100 or more. John Cardinal Newman Associates will receive special invitations to Newman sponsored events.

The Rose Zeller Associates
$50 or more

Dr. Rose Zeller was the Newman Club's first advisor. She was the only Catholic on the faculty at Eastern Illinois State Teachers' College when Newman began in 1940. She faithfully served as faculty advisor from its inception to 1956. It was her dedication to the Club which helped it to maintain a high standard of quality in its early years of growth.

Membership in the Rose Zeller Associates is open to anyone who contributes $50 or more.

The Associates $25 or more

An important part of Newman's annual fund drive are the contributions made by the hundreds of alumni, parents, and friends who are partners with us in ministry. Each Associate is considered an important link in both our present and our future development.
