Shantytown
Shantytown is a fictional place created by EIU's Campus Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. It depicts the realities of indecent and low income housing in America. This 24 hour event involves EIU students, faculty, and staff. Participants will gather on the Library Quad to build temporary housing out of cardboard boxes as well as to share a typical soup kitchen meal. The purpose is to allow EIU and Charleston communities to see first hand what type of conditions millions of people live in every day. This event also raises funds for Coles County Habitat for Humanity.

Spring Service Retreat
There is one last chance to participate this year. We will be traveling to the Port in Chicago. This weekend will give you a chance to do some community service and at the same time wrap some prayer around it. It is a great opportunity to connect who we are with what we do. THE PORT runs a variety of ministeries everything from homeless shelters, to bread trucks, to child care, to providing clothing and food. A great place doing good work for the people of Chicago!! We will leave the Newman Center on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and return on Sunday afternoon. The cost is only $10 and some canned goods. The money and the canned goods will go to the Port. Newman will provide transportation and food. Any questions, please contact Roy at 348-0188 or Lynn Girdwain at 581-2542. Space is limited. Application deadline is March 28.
