Transfer students are important to Eastern Illinois University as they make up 35% of our undergraduate population. EIU wants to make your transition as smooth as possible to insure your academic success.
Two steps are necessary to transfer to EIU as a Music Major or Minor at Eastern: application for admission and successfully passing a performance audition.

All entering transfer students planning to major or minor in music are required to perform and pass an audition prior to registering for music classes. In addition to the audition, prospective composition students should provide scores and/or tapes of original compositions prior to registration. Information on audition dates and requirements is available through the Department of Music Office at (217) 581-3010 and online at www.eiu.edu/~music/. All students who wish to transfer credit in music theory, aural training, music history, applied studies, and piano are required to take placement examinations in these subjects.
The Department of Music offers a variety of monetary awards to undergraduate music majors who demonstrate outstanding musical ability, including Grants-In-Aid, Excellence In Fine Arts Awards, Talented Student Awards, and numerous endowed scholarships donated by alumni and friends of EIU. Any student who auditions for acceptance as a Music Major will automatically be considered for a scholarship.
