EIU Low Brass Day 

Mark Fisher

The Fourth Annual Low Brass Day will take place on Sunday, November 4th, 2012 in the Doudna Fine Arts Center at EIU.

Guest faculty Mark Fisher and Chelsea French will be joining EIU low brass faculty members Jemmie Robertson and Todd French in  masterclass presentations, clinics, and chamber music coachings beginning at noon and culminating in a Grand Finale Artist Recital at 7:30 pm.

Mark Fisher Biography

Mason City, Iowa native Mark Fisher is the assistant principal trombonist with the Lyric Opera of Chicago and serves the Santa Fe Opera as principal trombone. Fisher has performed with virtually every major ensemble in Chicago and as substitute with many of the nation's leading orchestras including the Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Detroit Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra and St. Louis Symphony. He is founder and director of the Chicago Trombone Consort, comprised of the Chicago area's leading professional trombonists. Also an accomplished euphoniumist, Mark is past prize winner of numerous international solo competitions and his solo CD Eufish continues to meet with worldwide acclaim.

 

Head of the trombone department at DePaul University, Mark has presented recitals and masterclasses throughout the U.S., Canada and Japan. He has served on the faculties of Northwestern University, the University of Michigan, Roosevelt University, Northern Illinois University and the Banff International Festival. Mr. Fisher is an honors graduate of both the University of Northern Iowa and the New England Conservatory of Music.

Chelsea French Biography

Chicago-area freelance musician and brass instructor, Chelsea French, received her Master of Music degree in Trombone Performance from Northwestern University in June of 2005. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from DePaul University, and has studied primarily with Mark Fisher, Michael Mulcahy, Charles Vernon, Randall Hawes and Vance Shoemaker.

Chelsea has played with Chicago's Music of the Baroque, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the South Dakota Symphony, the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, and many regional orchestras in the Chicago area. Chelsea has received local, national and international recognition by winning the Chicago-area Musicians' Club of Women solo competition, the International Trombone Association's Marstellar Solo Competition, and the National Trombone Solo Competition held at the Eastern Trombone Workshop. Chelsea is on faculty at the Music Institute of Chicago and North Central College, Naperville, IL.

Born and raised in rural South Dakota, Chelsea began her musical studies on piano at the age of five. Her fascination with trombone began at age ten upon entering the public school band program in her hometown of Madison. Besides performing and teaching, Chelsea also enjoys many outdoor activities such as horseback riding and barefoot/minimalist long-distance running. She is also active as a certified yoga teacher.
