Rebecca Johnson recently joined the music department at Eastern as Instructor of Flute. She is currently a doctoral candidate in flute
performance at the University of Illinois, where she was a University
Fellow over the past year. She also holds degrees from the University of Louisville, the Royal Northern College of Music, and the University
of Northern Iowa. In addition to the Postgraduate Diploma in
Performance she earned while at the Royal Northern, she was awarded the<
prestigious Professional Performance Diploma as a part of Ensemble 23.2,
and international woodwind quintet. Rebecca's teachers have included
Jonathan Keeble, Kathleen Karr, Donald Gottlieb, Peter Lloyd, Liisa
Ruoho, Angeleita Floyd and Dianne Aboud.
An active member of the musical community, Ms. Johnson is the second
flutist of the chamber orchestra Sinfonia da Camera. She is also
Assistant Program Chair for the National Flute Association's 2008
convention, which will be held in Kansas City, Missouri. This past
summer, she had the honor of appearing as a finalist in two of the
National Flute Association's competitions at its convention in
Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Ms. Johnson is a past Rotary International Ambassadorial scholar and
past winner of the University of Louisville Concerto Competition, the
Des Moines Symphony Young Artists Competition, the University of
Northern Iowa Concerto Competition, and the Fort Dodge Symphony
Orchestra Young Artists Competition. She has participated in classes
and festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival, the Rome Festival
