The World Percussion / Latin Ensemble provides students with the opportunity to explore playing techniques, indigenous instruments, and traditional rhythms from around the world with a special emphasis on African and Afro-Caribbean music. Literature is chosen for concerts based upon its educational value for the students, but also for its entertainment value for the students and audience. Students will have a chance to play a variety of instruments in both a large and small group settings. In addition to offering authentic world music performances, the group's interest in combining elements of western and non-western music has given rise to an eclectic mix of jazz, pop, and world music that has engaged audiences throughout the state of Illinois. The ensemble visits several school systems each year and is in constant demand to perform throughout the Midwest.
